Welcome to Plymouth Nursery School

Located in the heart of Belmont Center, Plymouth Nursery School is best known for its nurturing environment and quality teaching staff.  At PNS the program allows freedom within the limits appropriate to early childhood and seeks to foster positive attitudes towards school. The program of activities, while informal in nature, is carefully planned to give each child an opportunity to explore his or her abilities and to develop self-confidence through constructive play.

Parents are actively involved in their child’s experience through volunteering on a specific committee, participating in social functions and visiting their child’s classroom twice a year.

“A child reminds us that playtime is an essential part of our daily routine.”

Our Philosophy

PNS embraces a play-based philosophy. All instructional activities, both teacher-guided and unstructured, are geared to the development of all aspects of a child’s growth: intellectual, physical, social, and emotional.

Our Facilities

Our school is located in the Plymouth Congregational Church building in the heart of Belmont Center. Our sun-filled space connects directly to our fantastic playground behind the school.

Our History

Plymouth Nursery School was opened in 1946, as a non-profit, semi-cooperative school sponsored by Plymouth Congregational Church to benefit the greater community.  As the years have evolved, the cooperative nature of the school has been changed to reflect the current needs of young families. A Board comprised of church members, staff, and parents oversees PNS, but religious instruction is not included in our curriculum.

Testimonials

I cannot express how lucky I feel to have found this preschool for my child. It is the most warm, nurturing, and positive environment - what a great first school experience. It is a lovely and cozy facility with incredible teachers who are invested in each child. An absolute gem.

Plymouth Nursery School has a creative, vibrant and loving program where I've seen many children thrive. Its teachers are caring and engaged and the curriculum keeps the kids learning through creating crafts/books of the units they're exploring and lots of hands-on experiments. The curriculum is right on point for social/emotional/physical development and academics to prepare a child for kindergarten. The atmosphere when the kids are in class is fun and joyous. Its private playground is also the best--by far--of any preschool I've seen. The play structure was rebuilt in 2022. PNS is a hidden gem in the middle of Belmont Center!

My daughter has had the most ideal preschool experience here. From mimicking Jackson Pollack paintings to marching in a Chinese New Years parade around Belmont Center, she has gotten to experience creative and challenging activities that have her excited to go to school each day. Most importantly, it is done in a warm, truly nurturing setting. I felt that from day one when I met the teachers on our tour. (It actually brought tears to my eyes.) In addition, being a coop, we parents have gotten to participate and have definitely become a community. We chat outside every morning during drop off and have had multiple school-wide activities and play dates. We truly feel lucky to have found this school.
